Movers At Work: Moving Checklist

Even if you have moved many time you are probably facing with both excitement and dread, not to worry we are going to give you a checklist to help you prepare for your big day.
Before your movers arrive:
- double check each room to be sure everything is packed and ready to be moved particularly closets edicts and basements.
- Make sure the items you move yourself are set apart from the items moved by the movers, if possible put them in the car.
- Pack your own personal personal bag and set it aside before the movers arrive.
- Get rid of any clutter that could get in the way of the movers, your move will be much more efficient that way.
- If you have any children or pets have someone to watch them during the move so they do get in the way.
- Check the parking situation to insure that the moving van will have enough space to park.
- Make sure you know how the moving company wants to be paid, get this ready prior to the move day most get paid right after the move, also ask if they charge to use a credit card.
When the movers arrive:
- Review all paper work and details with the driver, you will be presented with a bill of lading which sets forth all the conditions of your move – tag along with the drivers that prepare your moving inventory to make sure everything is accurate .
- Have water or cold drinks available for the crew or maybe some food moving is hard work and the mover will appreciate it, be around to assist the crew with any questions they have in if you are not around have someone that can fill in for you.
- Before the movers leave make sure they have all the phone number where you can be reached while your stuff are in transit, make sure you have the movers information too.
before you leave your old home:
- Make sure everything you want to move has been loaded to the moving van.
- Throw out all garbage.
- Lock windows and doors, shut faucets, set thermostats and turn off all lights.
- Leave any keys or garbage door openers for the new owners.
- Leave any forwarding address and phone numbers with the neighbors incase you need to be reached.
So you made it to your new home and the movers are about to arrive:
- Label the rooms so the movers know where to put your stuff.
- Provide schematics to where you want furnisher placed.
- As stuff are unloaded use the inventory to check things off, to make sure you have received all your belongings.
- When the movers are done you will be asked to sign the inventory sheet and the ill of lading – check closely before signing
- Unpack the kid’s room at kitchen first – you want the kids to be occupied and the kitchen is a poplar room in any new home.
- Set up your bed relatively early you will be tired and sleeping on the floor is not a good way to celebrate your first night in your new home.
